These G4 Theragun massage guns have now been on the market for over a year now! Let’s look at what they still lead the market in today, but also what they need to innovate on as they are falling behind!
Therabody Theragun is a very popular brand and for good reason! It’s been around for a while and is marketed using famous athletes. They even sent me their Elite version over for a review. That said, just because a product is well marketed doesn’t mean it’s worth it though. That’s where you need to look at comparisons of products to make sure, because it’s not just all about the specs.
If you want to see my initial product review, I will leave that in the link down below and up in the cards. For this video, I’m going to compare the now 2 year old massage gun, to it’s latest competitors. Let’s into usability, power, and value.
Stall Force is important. It tells you if & when a massage gun stops as you apply force. I haven’t found that the numbers claimed by the companies on their listing tend to be very accurate. This is why you need an honest reviewer to make sure it works.
Amplitude is how far in and out the head travels. Theragun has some of best amplitude at 16mm, but for my wife that it actually is a detriment as she thought it was too rough for her sore calf.
Usability

☕ Literally buy me a coffee ☕ If I have helped in any way, please considering buying me a coffee easily be clicking the link below. Thanks so much!! I truly appreciate you all for helping me create reviews! https://buymeacoff.ee/beforeyoubuy
First, usability. The Theragun Elite is a larger massage gun and comes with an equally large case. One of the biggest I’ve used. This becomes an issue when you want to often take it with you. I would suggest a smaller one for that and possibly their Mini, though sadly I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve heard it’s not a great all around massage gun either.
The larger design does allow you to have different hand positions, but I don’t find myself using those very often personally. See my video on hand positions if you want to hear more.
When it comes to charging, many of massage guns today charge over USB-C, which means hopefully we have to carry less cables in the near future as more platforms migrate to its standard. When you are on the go if it’s USB-C then your laptop, tablet, phone (cough apple cough) & massage guns would use the same charger.
The heads or attachments are a little lack luster with some now coming with 9 unique attachments. Therabody tried to remedy this by offering some dual adapters on their website, but the heads in the case are mostly all the same – round cushions that get more firm as they get smaller. For their pricing I would expect the dual head included, or other unique heads.
One thing they have lead the charge on is an app that helps walk you through how to use it for various workouts. As you’ll see in my full review, I had a few issues getting it connected, but I’m not really seeing too many others doing that which is great. There are a lot of YouTube videos out there doing the same, but it’s nice it’s built in.
People often look to Theragun Elite or Pro when they want the most massage gun with the most power! We break power into speed, amplitude and stall force. Speeds come in decent ranges.
They did rank pretty high in our testing for stall force as well. This allows you to dig in! It wasn’t the highest, but these are also some of the strongest massage guns I’ve used out of 60+. I can say nearly everyone would be fine with anything over mid 20lbs on my scale. Don’t believe the numbers they tell you. You never know if those are right.
If you like to get “hit” hard on top of it digging deep, the Theragun is still on top of the game! With 16mm of amplitude, only a few are up there in that range. I am personally OK recommending massage guns down to 7-8mm as long as it’s strong enough in stall force. That said, some people love the slap.
Therabody touts the G3 version has QuietForce Technology and is significantly quieter than before. That’s great news, but it’s still one of the loudest massage guns on the market. That’s too bad considering it limits where you can use it when it’s literally 4x louder than others.
VALUE. We are all willing to pay more if it’s worth it to us. The hard part is, Theraguns are really expensive. To put it in perspective I could buy nearly 6 of my favorite massage guns for the price of one Theragun Elite and that’s not their most expensive one.
Personally I’d love to see Theragun’s get a little cheaper, smaller, and quieter. What and don’t you like about Theragun’s lineup? Let me know in the comments below. I hoped this helped you think through any buying decision you have. Thanks for joining. Until next time. See ya!
